The U.S. flooring industry reported growth of 3.85% in dollars and 3.2% in volume from last year. As November comes to an end, there are some major changes coming to the flooring sector, especially in terms of design and innovation.
According to Deezen, a flooring design approach was recently highlighted at the 2018 Stockholm Furniture Fair. Floor designers were asked to recreate a typical fair stand in a way that would visually appease people and encourage visitors to experience how the actual flooring materials can be utilized in fresh and innovative ways.
Swedish collective Note Design Studio was awarded Small Interior of the Year 2018 at the Deezen Awards and impressed visitors at this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair.
“Together we did not only find a fresh and relevant way to show the potential of an overlooked material, but we’d also like to believe that we injected some energy and inspiration within Tarkett,” said Cristiano Pigazzini, design manager at Note Design Studio.
Here are some of the other 2018 award winners:
- Vancouver studio Knauf and Brown took home the Rising Star award.
- Kinnarps’ blue stand was recognized as the best at the fair.
- Bla Station’s modular Bob sofa was awarded best product.
The Stockholm Furniture Fair is the largest furniture and design exhibition in all of Sweden. Both design specialists and private individuals are welcome to participate in or showcase the latest products, innovations, and trends in the furniture design industry. In addition to the award ceremony, the entire exhibition is rounded off by various seminars, showcases, and lectures. The 2019 Stockholm Furniture Fair will take place quite early in the year, as professional designers and the general public will reconvene from February 5th until February 9th.
