A critical aspect of keeping the human body healthy is getting enough sleep. The body needs sufficient rest as much as it needs clean air, nourishing food, and hydration. A recent YouTube video by the Mayo Clinic News Network gives their “Tips for Better Sleep.”
Dr. Eric Olson of the Mayo Clinic is interviewed during the video.
His top recommendation is to go to bed at the same time daily, whenever possible. He further states people need seven hours of sleep every night.
Dr. Olson knows many people become overcome by worry at the time they’re trying to get to sleep. He suggests setting aside time earlier in the evening to worry. Dr. Olson believes if worrying has already occurred, it’s less likely to delay sleep.
Another caution given by Dr. Olson is
to avoid alcoholic beverages. Although alcohol may make you sleepy, it won’t lead to a restful night. Dr. Olson also advises against using a cell phone as a nightlight. The brain interprets phone’s light as an alert signal, so a cell phone may probably prevent restful sleep.
Dr. Olson’s sleep help suggestions can be the key to restful sleep. By using those tips every night, a night’s sleep is more likely. These guidelines can be the beginning of building a lifetime of healthy habits.
