Americans love music, reality TV, and celebrities. One thing that makes musicians, TV stars, and other celebrities so alluring is their fashion choices, especially when it comes to sunglasses.
Sometimes the sunglasses that these fashion icons wear are sleek, hip, and inspiring. Sometimes… they are downright ugly.
According to Page Six, Hollywood’s new favorite sunglasses are similar to the recent “ugly sneaker trend” but for the face.
Lady Gaga, Kourtney Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid all donned tiny sunglasses earlier this summer, causing fans around the world to rock similar styles, but tiny sunglasses are on their way out — their replacements, however, are much, much louder, bordering on the obnoxious.
“I almost think of it as the ugly sneaker trend for sunglasses,” said Poppy Lissiman, Australian accessories designer who was behind both the tiny shades and the new larger and reflective sunglasses.
Lissiman believes that sunglasses popularity, specifically pertaining to size, is a pendulum that goes back and forth. “And the next [trend] will be really big shapes.”
Kourtney’s sister Kim, Jennifer Lopez, and Bella Hadid have all started wearing these sporty-chic, shield-like large sunglasses. Though these sunglasses aren’t as great for selfies, as Lissiman states herself, they actually protect eyeballs from dangerous UV rays.
Whether it’s a celebrity-inspired designer pair or a cheap pair purchased from a gas station, these accessories aren’t exactly durable. In fact, an American breaks, sits on, or loses a pair of shades every 14 minutes.
Here are some of the most popular celebrity-inspired sunglasses and brands that people are loving at the moment:
- Poppy Lissiman — Big or small, these shades are quite popular and certainly contribute to upping Instagram engagement.
- Quay Australia — This Australian sunglasses brand also focuses on oversized shades and are all under $80. Despite the affordable prices, Hailey Baldwin, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyonce have all been seen wearing these stylish shades.
- KREWE — KREWE shades aren’t your parent’s celebrity-inspired shades, as these are extremely popular with some of the most famous millennial celebs. Selena Gomez, Blake Lively, and Kendall Jenner all regular rock these sunglasses.
