Avoid Certain Mistakes as You Plan Your Pole Barn
- Mixing old with new 6′ x 6′ pieces of wood: You’ll need to avoid using old pieces of wood along with new ones. The new ones will warp and curve within a short time due to how they are situated with the old pieces.
- Waiting too long to install trusses after putting posts in the ground: If you wait weeks to do this, you’ll not only lose momentum, but you might end up doing a rush job.
- Not realizing how heavy and sturdy the trusses are with all the metal – trusses can weigh well over 300 pounds.
- Not leveling enough ground for your pole barn – it needs to be a few feet past the perimeter of the barn.
- Not using a good enough quality sealer for the concrete: It is supposed to self-level, but with a cheap sealer it won’t do that the same way. You probably should invest $100+ on this.
There’s not necessarily just one way to plan and put up the best pole barn. However, it is a good idea to look to resources to learn what the experts recommend and what other people have done for their DIY projects.
